Are toys with mirrors OK to put in a cage containing one parakeet?

I heard from another parakeet owner that having toys with mirrors on them make the bird agressive and less willing to bond wtih it’s owner. Is this true? I always thought it gave my parakeet company when I was not around; besides he’s so attached to them, I would hate to take them away from him. What should i do??

I have heard of this happening occasionally, but all of my parakeets had mirrors are weren’t any more aggressive than other parakeets. If you’re not having any problems with him leave the mirrors alone and if you start noticing problems take them out then.

Whatever you think suites him, maybe get a girl parakeet…

Sorry I’m not such an expert on birds. My answers are all in the Cat section.

depends on your bird. if he is not agressive then let him have them but if he is well just hold him more and he will become ver attached to you and will only need the mirror when your gone. all my birds have mirrors and they are all very sweet.

I haven’t ever heard of such a thing. I have had several birds. Grew up with parakeets and all had toy mirrors. Mirrors have nothing to do with response to owners and agression. You must handle the bird at a young age and on a regular basis to make them tame.

It won’t necesarily make them aggressive.. But if you want an actual PET instead of just a bird that sits in its cage all day then DONT put a mirror in there. Most likely the bird will end up bonding to the MIRROR[he will think that it' another bird] instead of you.

He won’t get aggresive. Mirrors are company for parakeets. They love mirrors. So, when you are not around, your parakeet has company!

it doesn’t make it agressive really, but it sees that bird in the mirror and thinks “Hey another bird! What do I need that human for!” and they will bond with their reflection, and start disliking you. Once birds live with other birds(real or just reflection) They are no longer dependent on you. They will start to become detactched and they will slowly but surely become a wild bird per say. Just don’t do it if you want your bond to be strong.

Don’t believe that lie, it does not make them agressive it will make them curious and playful. I am also a parakeet owner of a 5 month old name Pebbles I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. And yes it does give them company but what ever you do don’t take it away from him. Some of the other things you can do as well is to put a swing and some other toys in his cage as well. Don’t pay no attention to those people they don’t know what they are talking about. Let your birdie have fun.
